Game Preview - The best way to preview a state quarterfinal game is to look back and see if the teams have played during the regular season. In the third quarterfinal matchup, Homewood-Flossmoor and Latin split the two games that they played, meaning this game could be wide open for anyone to win.
Flossmoor (24-8) enters the state tournament after knocking off Lincoln-Way East 13-10 at their own sectional site. They are led by a strong core of seniors who have qualified for state for the third straight year. Eric Olson is the workhorse for the Vikings, while Andrew Colmar, Mike Strein, and Bret Rademaker look to carry the offensive load for Flossmoor. Aaron Morrison and Ari Watman add depth and strong defense to the lineup, while goalie Sean Dunagan can hold his own in the net.
Latin (21-6) emerged from the Ignatius sectional with a 16-3 win over the host team. Chris Jenkins is having a stellar year for the Romans, while John Wickes is a solid offensive weapon. Jordan Himmel, Andrew Peterson, and Jamie Friedland do all the litttle things for Latin, while sophomore goalie Henry Fyfe has continued to improve in goal all season long.
Flossmoor won the most recent meeting between the two teams at the New Trier Tournament, a convincing 14-6 victory. A week before that, Latin came out on top at their pool in a 9-7 win.
