Game Preview - The top two teams in Illinois meet in the first round of the state tournament, and the winner of this game should emerge as the favorite to win the state title. This will be the seventh meeting between the Catholic league rivals, as Fenwick has won five of the six contests against Brother Rice in 2004.
Fenwick is led by Chris Parolin (89 goals), but they also get solid contributions from Mark Melnyk, Kevin Kysiak, and Luke Baldwin on the offensive end. Oscar Calderon provides exceptional defense for the Friars, while Bill Dunlap, Tom Parolin, and goalie Dan Evon have helped Fenwick to a #1 ranking for all but one week of the season.
Brother Rice will look for major contributions from their three seniors when they take on Fenwick. Brian Kuczynski, Matt Wood, and Ulysses Cortez have the ability to keep the Crusaders close, while Dan Fadden (goalie) and Mark DiCola both start and play important roles.
While the Friars have a 5-1 record against Brother Rice this year, their most recent battle was an overtime thriller that they won 13-12 for the MCAC Championship. They also won tournament final games over the Crusaders at Fenwick, Stevenson, and Brother Rice, while they won the regular season game between the two 8-4.
