COURTNEY HALL
Illpolo.com's All-Illpolo Team

Courtney Hall helped Barrington qualify for state in 2004 as a junior goaltender, and she moved to the field in 2005 to help her team reach the sectional finals at Palatine. She was named to the All-Illpolo team earlier this season and was also named to the All-State Tournament Team last year. We asked Courtney the following questions in an exclusive Illpolo.com interview:

College choices, major, current GPA?

I will attend Knox College next fall, and plan to major in Creative Writing and Biology. Current GPA is 3.6. I received two scholarships from Knox for my writing.

When did you start? How? Where?

Started playing water polo as a Sophomore in Barrington HS, where I was a back up goalie and hole defender.

Awards and achievements?

Junior Year at BHS was the full time goalie - made MSL Conference and Sectional first teams, ALL- State Tournament team. Senior Year switched to hole defense and point. Just named to Sectional Team although I only played in the first game when I got my nose broken.

Personal interests? Music? TV shows?

I love water sports - I am quite the fish.

Goals for the future with polo? School? Life?

I really have just begun as a water polo player. I plan to both swim and play water polo at Knox. It is a small college, but they take water polo seriously and are playing in the CWPA Nationals this year. Maybe I will return to my position in goal, but we'll see. I'm not sure what I want to be when I grow up, but I'm getting there, with baby steps.

Motivation, inspiration?

My motivation is to always beat the odds!

Other Comments?

To go from being a goalie to hole defender is like going from golf to rugby ! It was a lot of fun, though - just like those old time cat fights with my older brother. Playing hole D isn't that much different from wrestling, except that you throw in some of the "I'm not touching you" game. Then you play chicken for awhile, and sometimes you sit back and see how long it takes for the other person to get really angry. That's when you have to stop and laugh at how silly the whole game really is. I only wish that I had remembered to move my face when those elbows started flying...it's not much fun playing through a polo game with a broken nose!
