COLLEEN SHAW
Illpolo.com's All-Illpolo Team
Colleen Shaw helped Loyola
advance to the state tournament for the first time in school history by
winning the Glenbrook North sectional in 2005. The sophomore was named to
the All-State second team at the end of the season and was also selected
to the All-Illpolo second team for her performance as well. We asked
Colleen the following
questions in an exclusive Illpolo.com interview:
College choices, major, current GPA?
Dont really know as a sophomore; somewhere in California or New York would
be good.
Major: Graphic Design.
Experience, Club Team, Zone Teams, Off-season work?
Experience: none before high school
Club/Zone Teams: this summer I'm playing on the Midwest Zone team
Offseason work: Loyola summer camp, Chicago Park District (during winter),
Stevenson camp.
When did you start? How? Where?
When? Started swimming at first just for fun with friends freshman year after being cut from the volleyball team. The swimming people all did water polo and they were lots of fun so i did.
How? Swimming girls, and Coach Stonequist coached it (who had been coach in grade school for basketball)
Where?: Loyola
Awards and achievements?
Freshman Year: All-Freshman team, Top
freshman, (Loyola Award)-Most Improved Player
Sophomore Year: All Conference Team, All State Team (2nd), All Sectional
Team, All Versatile Team, All Sophomore Team, (Loyola Awards)- 2nd Varsity
Award, 2005 MVP.
Personal interests? Music? TV shows?
Art/photography, basketball, going out with
friends, weekends...TV Shows: Full House, ALIAS!, FRIENDS, MXC, Lifetime
Movies, Boy Meets World...
Goals for the future with polo? School? Life?
w/polo: Go to state as a team in the next two years, make overall season record better, "start a new tradition for Loyola water polo", play in college. w/life: be a graphic designer/artist and get rich.
Motivation, inspiration?
Motivation: every year the seniors that get us
to work, friends, coach and rich
Inspiration: the team, coach, rich, upperclassmen, friends...

"Learning and understanding the game", going in only to take shots.

Hole set at the beginning, driver, main scorer.
