Entry #6
Time To Show Big Z The Door

At
about 6:35pm on Friday evening, I tuned in to watch my beloved Chicago
Cubs take on the Atlanta Braves. I then proceeded to watch our “ace”
Carlos Zambrano (and I use the term loosely) give up five home runs
and then throw two straight pitches at Chipper Jones. This left me
scratching my head, but it wasn’t even the most baffling part of the
night.
After the game, I heard that Zambrano marched into the locker room,
cleaned out his locker and told the team he was retiring.
Wait…what?
My only question is how fast did the Cubs change the locks so he can’t
decide that he was kidding?
Big Z, the same guy who earlier this year said the Cubs were "a
Triple-A team" pulls a stunt that wouldn’t be allowed in the Little
League World Series that ESPN has been airing over the past week.
Big Z, the same guy who has been suspended by the Cubs each of the
last three seasons wants to just walk out on the $24 million the team
still owes him on a contract he never deserved.
Big Z, the same guy who said “we stink” about the Cubs after his
closer blew a victory for him.
No, Big Z, you stink and I have been tired of it as a fan for a long
time. Cubs management should be too. Signal White Sox broadcaster Hawk
Harrelson with the “he gone.”
The Cubs put Zambrano on the disqualified list Saturday, which is a
30-day suspension without pay that the MLB Players Union will likely
step in and stop. And Zambrano’s agent has reportedly told GM Jim
Hendry that Zambrano isn’t in “retirement mode” anymore.
I don’t care what mode he is in.
No more half-assed apologizes. No more crying when things don’t go his
way. No more fights with Gatorade coolers. No more sub-par pitching.
No more temper tantrums.
If Big Z still wants to play, he shouldn’t be welcome here. not after
spitting in the face his twenty-four teammates and walking out. Not
after spitting in the face of management, not after spitting in the
face of the fans like myself.
My greatest disappointment as a Cubs fan, and it’s a pretty long list,
would be if they were to allow Zambrano back on the team. If he wants
to come back, pay his money and tell him get out. Hell, I’ll even give
the rest of my money to help the Cubs, so they will just owe him
$23,999,980.
This should be the first domino to fall with dramatic changes coming
to this Cubs team for 2012. This should not be allowed on any major
league team and it is time to put a stop to it. Hopefully whatever got
into Big Z that made him quit he can give to Soriano so he can leave
and save the Cubs some money too.
But when I think about it, the worst part of this whole Zambrano
situation is: We got more out of him than Mark Prior or Kerry Wood.
