FACTS & STATS: Site: Stevenson High School -- Lincolnshire, Illinois. 2005 Series Record: Evanston leads, 1-0.

GAME NOTES: Junior Jason Ament leads the Griffins on the offensive end, but he is helped by a well-balanced starting lineup and a strong bench. Louis Wills, Nate Peyton, and Pat McKernin are all seniors who are looking to finish their careers with a win at state. McKernin is a strong defender, so he could spend a majority of the game trying to contain Evanston's Alex Negronida. The goalies have split time in the net this season, as Wyatt Spiese and Ryan Golden are both capable of playing well in the net. Dan Zoellick and Joe Rys fill out the starting lineup, and both are experienced seniors who create opportunities for the rest of their teammates. Steven King and Dave Izzo lead a strong bench that allows the starters to stay rested throughout the game. Head coach Tim Daniel is making his first appearance at state but is very active and calls a good game from the sidelines.

Evanston can match the depth of Lincoln-Way East with an imposing starting lineup of their own. Negronida is the major factor on offense, as his pinpoint accuracy from the outside can damage the chances of a lot of teams. The Wildkits two-meter offense falls on the shoulders of Andrew Olsen, who can generate offensive opportunities for his teammates with his ability to draw fouls. The rest of the lineup is loaded with versatile players, with Tim Fodor and Magee Clegg playing important roles on both the offensive and defensive ends. Tommy Doyle and Chris Waller can make things tough for opponents with their passing, ball handling, and ability to draw fouls, while Tim Silkaitis provides the team with a strong burst of speed that helps the Wildkits' counterattack. Senior Kevin Paulson has had a strong year in goal, and he could give Evanston the edge with his passing ability and his sense of the game. The bench is strong with Tony Mustoe, Dustin Sonneborn, and speedster Doug Lennox, so matching up with the Griffins' depth should not be a problem.

Evanston is playing well after two wins down the stretch of the season over rival New Trier, and the Griffins had trouble stopping Negronida in their first meeting this season (a 14-12 at the Fenwick Tournament). The Griffins have great balance and depth, but the Wildkits can match that and then some in this matchup. Negronida and Paulson make the difference in this one as Evanston should squeeze past Lincoln-Way East and advance to the Final Four.
