AMY THATCHER
All-Illpolo Team; Illpolo.com's Best Tandem
Amy Thatcher played a key role
in helping Homewood-Flossmoor finish third in the state of Illinois in
2005. The senior teamed up with Lauren Peterson as Illpolo.com's choice
for Best Tandem, while she was also named to the
All-Illpolo first team and
the All-State first team at the end of the season. We asked Amy the following
questions in an exclusive Illpolo.com interview:
College choices, major, current GPA?
University of Illinois, Animal Sciences, 3.7 GPA (unofficial)
Experience, Club Team, Zone Teams, Off-season work?
Playing for No Limit Water Polo, 4 years on
high school team, West Pullman club team for 2 years during the winter,
summer polo conditioning at HF, summer polo camp at the Naval Academy in
Annapolis.
When did you start? How? Where?
Freshman year at HF.
Awards and achievements?
Illinois State Scholar, NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, National Spanish Honor Society, National Merit Commended Scholar, All-State Tournament Team, second team all sectional junior year. Amy was named to both the first team All-Illpolo and All-State in 2005.
Personal interests? Music? TV shows?
all music (favorites=Coldplay, Dave Matthews
Band, The Killers, Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, The Postal Service),
TV=24, Gilmore Girls, Grey's Anatomy, other interests=friends, family,
animals, photography.
Goals for the future with polo? School? Life?
Club polo at U of I, finish college and on to vet school, maybe open my own practice or work at a zoo as a vet, BE LAME and hang out with Lauren Peterson!
Motivation, inspiration?
My mom and dad and sister-always have pushed
me to do my best and supported me.
First Season role?
Started as hole set (no joke) then on to hole D and point, and then basically utility wherever.
Soph Year role?
Sophomore year I sat on the bench playing a banjo with Lauren and junior year basically utility, mainly a defensive player both years.
Other Comments?
Umm...don't take life too seriously, always try your best, no regrets.
