VERNON HILLS SECTIONAL (GIRLS) Schedule/Results
Play-In Game (9) Lake Forest 13 (8) Vernon Hills 9 Emily Nowlin tallied 8 goals and Megan Salzer added 4 scores to lead Lake Forest to a 13-9 win over Vernon Hills on Tuesday night.
Thursday, May 13 Quarterfinals (1) Mundelein 17 (9) Lake Forest 1 Evelyn Kurzac scored 7 goals and Emily Tylka made 12 saves as Mundelein built off of a 7-0 first quarter lead en route to a 17-1 victory over Lake Forest on Thursday. Jacqui Lodor added 3 scores and Alexis Jones and Amy Klink both scored 2 times in the win for the Mustangs. Megan Salzer scored the lone goal for the Scouts. . (4) Hersey 7 (5) Deerfield 5 Meg Nolan recorded 4 goals and 7 steals to lead the Huskies to a 7-5 victory over Deerfield on Thursday night. Caroline Stoklosa, Christine Rovani, and Meg Anderluh also notched goals in the win for Hersey, who broke a 4-4 tie in the second half with two straight goals to hold off the Warriors. Phoebe Del Greco scored 3 times for Deerfield while goalie Nicole Grevers made 13 saves in the loss. . (2) Stevenson 10 (7) Highland Park 3 Cheyenne Montijo scored 7 goals, drew 6 ejections, and made 6 steals to lead the Patriots to a 10-3 win over Highland Park. Sam Petti also scored 2 times and Lisa Michalowski made 12 saves in the win for Stevenson. Mika Hasak scored 2 goals and Marianna Irwin made 10 saves in the loss for the Giants. . (3) Wheeling 13 (6) Libertyville 3 Amy Wilson scored 5 times, Christa Khatcherian added 3 goals, and Leah Molsom and Ryan Griesmeier both recorded 2 goals as Wheeling defeated Libertyville 13-3. Emily Sullivan also added a goal in the win for the Wildcats.
Friday, May 14 Semifinals (1) Mundelein 12 (4) Hersey 3 Alexis Jones scored 6 goals and Jacqui Lodor added 2 scores to push Mundelein into the sectional finals with a 12-3 victory over Hersey on Friday night. Allison Williams, Christine Rovani, and Meg Nolan each tallied one goal for the Huskies.
(2) Stevenson 10 (3) Wheeling 9 Karen Lowry scored 8 goals, including 6 scores in the second half, as Stevenson edged Wheeling 10-9 to move on to the sectional final game at Vernon Hills. The Patriots trailed the Wildcats 4-3 at halftime, but after Lowry and Christa Khatcherian traded goals in the beginning stages of the second half, Lowry and Cheyenne Montijo both recorded goals to give Stevenson a 6-5 lead. Lowry then traded goals with both Khatcherian and Amy Wilson in the fourth quarter, then she added her seventh goal with under two minutes remaining to give Stevenson a 9-7 lead. Wilson tallied her third goal of the game at the 1:11 mark to make the score 9-8, but Lowry added an insurance goal in the final minute before Wilson scored with 0:20 left to get Wheeling with 10-9. The Patriots were able to run out the clock in the waning seconds of regulation in order to move on to the next round. Wilson scored 4 goals, Khatcherian added 3 scores, and Emily Sullivan had 2 goals in the loss for Wheeling.
Saturday, May 15 Finals (1) Mundelein 15 (2) Stevenson 3 Evelyn Kurzac scored 5 goals, Dani Caldwell added 3 scores, and Emily Tylka recorded 15 saves to lead Mundelein to a 15-3 win over rival Stevenson on Saturday. Alexis Jones, Amy Klink, and Jacqui Lodor each scored 2 times in the victory for the Mustangs, who advance to the state tournament for the first time since 2003. Cheyenne Montijo scored 2 goals, Sam Petti added one score, and Lisa Michalowski stopped 8 shots in the loss for the Patriots.
