Lindsay Jansen totaled 5 goals and Taylor Bridgman put in 3 scores in the victory for North.
Friday, May 14 Semifinals (1) Naperville Central 18 (5) Neuqua Valley 8 Tori Davis scored 3 times during a 6-0 first quarter burst and totaled 5 goals for the game as Naperville Central beat Neuqua Valley 18-8 on Friday at the NV Sectional. (2) Waubonsie Valley 9 (3) Naperville North 7 The Warriors held off a late surge by Naperville North to earn a 9-7 win over the Huskies to advance to the sectional finals at Neuqua Valley. Naperville North trailed 8-3 entering the final quarter, but the Huskies 4-1 run was not enough to overcome the Warriors' lead. Alex White, Cara Stack, and Isabelle Langheim each scored 2 times in the win for Waubonsie Valley. Lindsay Jansen registered 3 scores for the Huskies in the loss.
Saturday, May 15 Finals (1) Naperville Central 8 (2) Waubonsie Valley 5 Emily Sejna started the scoring for Naperville Central as they took an early 1-0 lead. Alex White responded for the Warriors to tie the score at 1-1. The Redhawks earned an ejection but could not convert their scoring chance and the game remained deadlocked early on. The Warriors failed to score on a solid chance of their own on the other end, in a nervous-looking first few minutes at Neuqua Valley. Neither team could break the tie in the final three minutes of the period, so we headed to the second quarter even at 1-1.
Claire Fleming showed her ability early in the second quarter, scoring at two meters and then from five meters after an ejection to put the Redhawks ahead 3-1. Nikki Mandl scored a breakaway goal to get the Warriors back within one goal. Mandl drew a penalty late in the half and converted to tie the score at 3-3. Neither team could take advantage of 6-on-5 situations in the final few minutes and the game remained even at 3-3 at halftime.
Tori Davis opened the scoring in the second half for Central after an ejection, then Abbey Kerth scored from two meters out to put NC ahead 5-3. Sejna scored on a breakaway and Central pushed their lead to 6-3 at the end of three periods of play.
Central scored two straight goals early in the final period, including a goal by Davis and a breakaway score by Kerth to put Central ahead 8-3. In the final two minutes, Mandl and White tallied goals for the Warriors, but it proved to be too little, too late as Naperville Central will head to the state tournament after earning an 8-5 win over Waubonsie Valley.
Davis, Fleming, Kerth, and Sejna all scored 2 times in the win for the Redhawks, while Fleming registered 11 steals and goalie Julia Campbell made 10 saves. EB Keeve came up big for the Warriors, making 17 saves in the loss. Nikki Mandl scored 3 times and Alex White added 2 scores for the Warriors.
