Frequently Asked 'Previews/Rankings' Questions
By Aaron
Brown
As the final hour draws near before the 2016 preseason
rankings and the Top 25 team previews are released, I tried to come up
with a list of issues that I came across while researching and debating
that might help anyone viewing the rankings interpret them better:
1) The rankings are NOT a prediction of where a team
will finish at the end of the season. They are merely a starting point to
the upcoming season and are heavily based on the end result of the 2015
season. Every attempt to find info throughout the offseason is made, but a
lot has changed since the last season ended and so much will change as we
navigate through the eleven week season.
2) Rankings are based on the information I have at my
disposal. There are a few cases where no matter where I looked and no
matter what stone I turned over I could not find enough information about
a particular team. This might occur in situations where a team lost the
majority of their starters to graduation. In these select few cases, a
team's ranking could be affected by that lack of information
3) In the Top 25 previews, there are two categories
that list a team's players: KEY PLAYERS and PLAYERS TO WATCH. In most
cases, I tried to list underclassmen in the Players to Watch category, but
there were some situations where there were too many players to list in
the first category and so a player might have been listed in the second
category simply based on the space available. If this causes confusion,
you may wish to simply consider the second category to be a KEY PLAYERS
CONTINUED category instead.
4) In the past, there have always been a handful of
players who were mistaken as seniors at the end of the previous season and
thus were not included in the new season's previews. If you find a name to
be curiously missing, please send an e-mail to
illpolostaff@gmail.com and we
will see if it can be sorted out.
5) Additionally, there have been players who were
mistaken as not having graduated, who have decided not to return to play
this season, or for a variety of reasons will not be involved in the sport
(graduated early, transferred, moved, etc.) If you find a name to be
included that most likely should not be, send an e-mail to
illpolostaff@gmail.com and we
will see if it can be sorted out.
6) Due to the time spent researching and writing, the
team previews for teams ranked 26-50 may be updated later in the week.
7) The All-Illpolo Teams will be released later in the
week as well, with an estimated posting date of February 15. Impact
Players will also be released at the same time.
8) I tried my best.
