Kapecki tallied 15 goals and Shashin added 13 scores as the Patriots won
their own event on Saturday with wins over Fremd, Niles West and Wheeling.
Jake Burke/Matt Klock (LWC)
Klock totaled 9 goals and Burke made 37 saves for Central as they claimed
second place at the Conant Tournament. Klock also led the offense with 7
goals while Burke denied 11 shots in the Knights' 20-3 win over Bremen
earlier in the week.
Kyle Jackson/Nick Walker (Naperville Central)
Jackson and Walker combined to score 25 goals to lead the Redhawks'
offense to the Metea Valley Tournament title after finishing the event
with a 4-0 record. Their performance included a pair of wins over Top 10
teams (Naperville North, Neuqua Valley).
Kevin Manna/Matt Merucci (Loyola)
Manna and Merucci totaled 22 goals at the Palatine Tourney to help the
Ramblers post a 3-1 record and claim a second place finish at the
nine-team event. The duo also scored 4 times in Loyola's 8-5 win over
Fenwick earlier in the week.
Jake Abercrombie/Mike Laughlin/Tom Trojniar (LWN)
The Phoenix' trio of Abercrombie, Laughlin and Trojniar recorded 30 goals
to help North win the Stagg Tournament after posting a 4-0 record and wins
over Bradley, Bremen, Hinsdale Central and R-B.
Mike Ward (Mundelein)
Ward racked up 18 goals to help the Mustangs finish with a 3-1 record at
the Palatine Tournament over the weekend.
GIRLS
Allison Travetto/Claire Haas (Stevenson)
Travetto and Haas combined to score 25 goals over the course of three
games as the defending champions beat Lyons, Palatine and Wheeling to win
their own event.
Ann Cho/Jenny Fermaintt (Hoffman)
Fermaintt recorded 11 goals and Cho scored 8 times as the Hawks earned
wins over Andrew and Latin to wrap up the opening week of the season.
Becca Schumm/Olivia Everhart (Evanston)
Schumm led the Wildkits' offense with 13 goals, including a school record
8-goal performance against Prospect, while Everhart made 42 saves and
dished out 7 assists to help Evanston finish in second place at the New
Trier Tourney. Schumm also scored 4 times and Everhart made 19 saves in a
10-1 win over Maine West earlier in the week.
Betsy Zanocco (Meadows)
The Mustangs' goalkeeper made 45 saves to help her squad finish the
Northside Tournament with a 3-1 record. She also scored 3 times over the
weekend and stopped 8 shots in a victory over Maine East on Tuesday night.
Faith Vandercar/Kaela Codo (Naperville Central)
Codo recorded 13 goals while Vandercar earned a shutout and allowed just
2.5 goals per game as the Redhawks won the Naperville North Tournament
with a 4-0 record. Codo also scored 4 times and Vandercar made 8 saves in
Central's win over Glenbrook South earlier in the week.
Paulina Chowaniec/Sam Wooley (Conant)
Chowaniec scored 13 goals and Wooley notched 10 scores as Conant won their
own invitational after wins over Lane, Lake Forest and STC East. Wooley
also scored 5 times and
Chowaniec
netted 4 scores in the Cougars' 12-4 win over Wheeling. The pair also
combined to score 15 goals in a season-opening win over Maine East. Wooley
also led the defense with 16 steals during the week.
