York Tournament Broadcast Results
By Aaron
Brown
High School Cube and illpolo.com collaborated to
provide live coverage of the York Tournament's championship round on
Saturday, March 28.
The stream was provided via the
The Cube's web site and while the original plans include play-by-play
coverage along with video, technical difficulties only allowed for an
audio broadcast.
Regardless, the four-game championship round received a
total of 1,200 views (and counting) which is greater than a majority of
the live football and basketball games broadcast by The Cube in 2015.
The number of views that this water polo event received
is important, as it shows The Cube and its' sponsors that the sport in
Illinois has a strong following.
More immediate was the response of the producer on the
scene, who had never seen the sport of water polo before and was equally
impressed with both the sport and the broadcast. He planned to put in a
good word with his boss requesting more water polo broadcasts like this in
the near future.
Special thanks go out to York head coach Brian Drumm
for convincing The Cube to broadcast the event.
Also, if you get the chance, please thank York High
School water polo player Grace Achepohl, as she dedicated her Saturday
afternoon to providing color commentary for the event and did a tremendous
job, despite having no previous broadcasting experience.
And thank you to those who tuned in to the event to
show The Cube that water polo in Illinois has the best fans in high school
sports.
