Week 9
The following is a summary of what took place during the
ninth week of the season. This is not a complete list and we can only
include a few people in this summary, but the purpose is to recognize a few
of the best performances from each week.

Biggest Impact Plays
BOYS
Kyle Strobel (Loyola)
Strobel made a key steal in the final thirty seconds of the Ramblers' 10-9
victory over Brother Rice in the semifinals of the Catholic League
playoffs.
Robby Liberman (Glenbrook North)
Liberman's fourth quarter goal proved to the game-winner for the Spartans
in their 10-9 upset win over Niles West.
GIRLS
Becky Insalaco (St Ignatius)
Insalaco scored the game-winner in the final minute of the Wolfpack's 9-8
win over Fenwick in the MCAC semifinals.
Katie Appell (Oak Park)
Appell provided the game-winning goal in the final minute as the Huskies
got past Marian 6-5 on Wednesday night.
Melissa Gartenberg (Stevenson)
Gartenberg's goal in sudden-death overtime propelled the Patriots to a
10-9 victory over LWC on Saturday.
Top Goalie Performances
BOYS
Kyle Strobel (Loyola)
Strobel recorded 28 saves as the Ramblers beat Brother Rice, Fenwick, and
St Rita to win the MCAC title.
Matt Prestinario (Naperville Central)
Prestinario blocked 35 shots on Saturday to help Central win the Stevenson
Tournament with victories over the hosts, LWC, and Neuqua Valley.
John Goetz (Lockport)
Goetz totaled 40 saves to help the Porters go 3-0 in Week 9 with wins over
LWC, Neuqua Valley, and Sandburg.
GIRLS
Alona King (Sandburg)
The Eagles' goalkeeper made 48 saves in wins over
H-F, Lincoln-Way Central, Lockport, and Neuqua Valley as the team also
clinched a share of the SWSC Blue division title.
Hannah Caywood (New Trier)
Caywood earned a shutout and allowed just 11 goals in three games as New
Trier win the CSL Tournament. She totaled 15 saves in an 8-6 title game
victory and also gave up just 4 goals earlier in the week as New Trier
defeated Naperville North 6-4.
Biggest Surprises
BOYS
Loyola
The Ramblers claimed their first MCAC title since 1978 by beating Fenwick
7-5 in the Catholic League finals.
GIRLS
Glenbrook North
The Spartans put together an impressive late-season win streak in 2013,
capped off by an 8-7 upset of Maine East in the CSL quarterfinals.
Whitney Young
The Dolphins finally put things together to beat Lane 6-5 to win the CPS
title with an incredible weekend performance.

Sectional Playoffs Begin
The postseason has finally arrived, with two days of play-in games, two
days of quarterfinals, one action packed night of semifinals, and
Saturday's sectional finals. The
