Week 3

 

The following is a summary of what took place during the third week of the season. This is not a complete list and we can only include a few people in this summary, but the purpose is to recognize a few of the best performances from each week.

Alex Batuello (Andrew)

Maymo Lopez (Evanston)

Allison Travetto (Schaumburg)

Emily Sowa (Wheeling)

Biggest Impact Plays

BOYS

Alex Divanyan (Stevenson)

Divanyan connected on the game-winning goal in the fourth quarter of the Patriots' 12-11 win over Palatine on Monday.

 

Curtis Thrun (Lincoln-Way North)

Thrun scored the game-winner in sudden-death overtime as the Phoenix stunned STC East 10-9 on Wednesday.

 

GIRLS

Rachel Chumbook (Palatine)

Chumbook scored the game-winning goal in sudden-death overtime to lift the Pirates past Conant 15-14 on Thursday. She totaled 10 goals in the win for Palatine.

 

Top Goalie Performances

BOYS

Rob O'Brien (Stevenson)

O'Brien totaled 39 saves to help the Patriots finish with a perfect 3-0 record against Missouri teams at their own event on Saturday.

 

GIRLS

Becky Callen (Stevenson)

Callen made 27 saves to help the Patriots win the Lyons Tournament on Saturday, which included win over Neuqua, Evanston, and the hosts.

 

Caroline Foglton (LWC)

Foglton stopped 24 shots at the Lincoln-Way East Tourney, helping her team finish 3-0 to win the event. She also let in just 4 goals in the tournament title game, a 6-4 victory over Lincoln-Way North.

 

Sarah Abbott (Mother McAuley)

Abbott blocked 20 shots in the Mighty Macs' 16-8 victory over Loyola and allowed just 5 goals in a 9-5 triumph over Sandburg during Week 3.

 

Biggest Surprises

BOYS

STC East over York; Wheeling over Schaumburg

The Dukes and Saxons were on their way to the title game of the Schaumburg Tournament when crucial losses helped Lafayette (MO) win the event even after Friday night's loss to the hosts.

 

GIRLS

Morton

The Mustangs surprised York 11-7 on Monday night to improve to 7-2 on the season and into the Top 25 for the first time in team history.

Sectional Assignments Released

The IHSA officially released the boys and girls sectional assignments on Thursday afternoon. Read all about our immediate reactions to the announcement.

 

Spring Break Effect

Several teams were left short-handed over the weekend and most schools are officially on Spring Break during Week 4, so expect a lighter schedule before things really get going once April arrives.
