Biggest
Surprises
BOYS
St Ignatius Beats Oak Park and Stevenson
A 2011 state qualifier beating two non-qualifiers
shouldn't be surprising news, the Wolfpack have been struggling for a
variety of reasons and posted a 5-12 record heading into the vaunted LT
Tournament. The 'Pack responded with wins over both Oak Park and Stevenson
to finish the event in third on Saturday.
STC East 10 St Patrick 7
Imagine you were from the past and you traveled ahead
to 2012 and heard that a team from St Charles beat perennial water polo
powerhouse St Patrick. Would you believe it? Well that JUST happened last
week as Shaun Seuschek scored 3 times in the win for the Saints.
GIRLS
Lyons Stuns Fenwick 13-10
The Lions aggressively handed the defending champs
their second loss of the season on Friday; while it shouldn't be THAT of a
shock considering LT won state two years ago, it's always news when
Fenwick loses and throws a major wrench into prognosticators hands
considering these two are currently placed in the same sectional. Can we
at least schedule this potential rematch at a different time than any
other sectional final, please?
News and Notes
Illinois RULES Missouri
Fenwick beat the top-ranked teams in Missouri over the
long weekend at the DeSmet Tournament. The Friars beat MO's defending
champs SLUH in the semifinal round and topped Parkway West 10-4 in the
title game.
Okay...NOW Spring Break Is Over
It looked like the Spring Break effects were over, but
last week still saw several schools on break for the week. I feel this, as
I spent the waning days of my break in a bomb shelter (aka...the Fenwick
basement when the lights went out mid-game!). Anyways, NOW we should be
back to full-on water polo schedule mode for three more weeks of the
regular season.
What Don't We Know
We know the sectional hosts, placements, and brackets
(at least we think so...looking at you IHSA). What else is left? The
sectional seeds! That plays out on Thursday and should be finalized by
Friday morning/afternoon. We will be able to paint a clear picture of the
postseason in less than one week!
