Week 1 Ballers
BOYS
Brian DuPuy (Neuqua Valley)
DuPuy scored 3 key goals in a 7-5 win over Naperville Central and helped
the Wildcats finish in second place at the NN Tourney on Saturday. He also
scored 6 times in the Wildcats' 19-7 win over Barrington on Tuesday.
Eduardo Chavez (Curie)
Chavez totaled 16 goals at the Palatine Tournament, leading the Condors to
a fourth place
finish. His big performances included 7 goals in a 14-5 win over
Palatine and 5 scores in a 19-1 win over Mundelein. He also scored 3 times
in a 16-11 victory over Lane earlier in the week.
James Ruggiero (Latin)
Ruggiero helped Latin claim second place at the Palatine Tournament with
14 total goals. He scored 4 times in a 13-8 win over H-F and notched 6
scores in the Romans' 14-6 win over McHenry. He scored 2 goals in both
championship round games, a draw with New Trier and a one-goal loss to
Loyola.
Jordan Palmer (New Trier)
Palmer totaled 16 goals at the Palatine Tournament to help the Trevians
earn a third place finish at the event. He scored 5 times each in wins
over Palatine and St Ignatius and put in 3 more in each game in a narrow
loss to Loyola and a draw with Latin.
Juan Valdez (Stagg)
Valdez totaled 24 goals to help the Chargers win their own tournament over
the weekend. This included a 5-goal, 4-steal performance in a 13-10 title
game win over Hinsdale Central. He also poured in 10 goals in a 19-9 win
over STC North in the preliminary round.
Mitch Phelps (STC East)
Phelps scored 6 times in the Saints' 13-11 preliminary round win over
Prospect and added 6 more scores in a 10-6 title game win over the hosts
to lift STC East to the Hoffman Tournament championship. Earlier in the
week, he scored 7 times in a 15-8 win over Metea Valley.
Sang Han (Hoffman)
Han led the Hawks with 11 goals at their own tournament, helping them earn
a second place finish. He also scored 3 times in Monday night's 9-8 upset
win over Mundelein and 6 more goals in a 20-10 victory over Prospect.
GIRLS
Alexana Astor/Isabelle Baneaux/Kelsey Willian (NT)
The Trevians' trio was instrumental in the team's 4-0 start, which
included winning their own tournament on Saturday. They combined to score
8 goals in a 14-4 win over Sandburg, Willian scored 5 times and Astor
added 4 scores in a 22-4 victory over Saint Viator, and Baneaux led the
way with 5 scores in a 16-2 triumph over Evanston. Astor and Baneaux also
combined to score 7 goals in Thursday's win over Maine East.
Andie Cobb/Jessica Southern/Kristi Burke (Conant)
Cobb, Southern, and Burke combined to score 24 total goals at the Conant
Tournament, helping the Cougars claim the title with wins over Lake Forest
and STC East. They also scored 9 goals in a 10-8 victory over Elk Grove on
Thursday.
Cassidy O'Connell (Lane)
O'Connell scored 14 goals at the Conant Tournament, putting in 7 scores in
a 10-6 victory over the hosts and 7 goals in a 14-2 win over STC East. She
also scored 6 times in a CPS shutout of Payton earlier in the week.
Emily Nowlin (Lake Forest)
Nowlin recorded 20 goals and 6 assists at the three-game Conant
Tournament, helping the Scouts earn wins over the hosts and STC East.
Hannah Schultz (Bremen)
Schultz led the Red Jaguars to a perfect start in 2012, as she scored 8
times in a 15-10 opening night win over LWC and then added 3 scores in
Bremen's 9-7 upset win over H-F.
Julia Campbell (Naperville Central)
The Redhawks' goaltender allowed just 5 goals in four games over the
weekend to lead the team to the Naperville Tourney title. Campbell
recorded a shutout in NC's 14-0 win over WV and allowed just one goal
earlier in the week in 16-1 win over Marian.
Rhyan White (Northside)
White scored the game-winning goal and totaled 3 scores in a 12-10 victory
over Oak Park, notched 3 goals in an 11-9 win over York, and tallied 4
scores against Marian to help NSP win their own tournament on Saturday
afternoon. She has racked up a total of 15 goals as the Mustangs have
started the season with a 4-2 record.
