Semifinal #2: Stevenson 9 St Ignatius 7
LINCOLNSHIRE, IL - Stevenson continued their
amazing postseason run by outlasting St Ignatius 9-7 in the second state
semifinal game on Saturday morning in Lincolnshire. In a back-and-forth
game that saw neither team lead by more than two goals, the Patriots
gained the upper-hand in the late stages when Erin McCook connected on a
goal from near seven-meters and Cheyenne Montijo slammed home a penalty
shot. From there, the defense took over, as Stevenson held the Wolfpack
without a goal for nearly six minutes in the final quarter to grab the
victory.
Montijo led the Patriots with 3 scores,
while both Karen Lowry and Shelby Kohalmy notched 2 scores in the
Stevenson win. McCook and Sam Petti each added one score and Lisa
Michalowski made 9 saves in the Patriots' win.
Becky Insalaco scored 3 times and Stephanie
Fernandez and Tammy Stelnicki both put in 2 scores to account for the
Wolfpack's scoring. Kate Murphy registered 7 saves in the losing effort
for Ignatius.
