Barrington Sectional
4:00pm Fremd vs Barrington
Barrington is seeking their third straight upset win
after beating St Viator and Schaumburg in the last two rounds of their own
sectional tournament. Their task becomes much more difficult on Saturday
afternoon, as they need to get past a Fremd team that just does not lose
to Mid-Suburban League teams. The Vikings beat the Fillies twice in 2011.
Can they grab a third win and get back to the state tournament while
playing in a hostile environment, as Barrington seems to like playing in
the own pool this week?
Fenwick Sectional
12:00pm Fenwick vs Oak Park
Oak Park has racked up 34 goals and allowed just 3
scores in the first two rounds of sectionals this week. Their task just
got a bit more difficult when they travel a few miles up the road to take
on Fenwick at their home pool on Saturday afternoon. Fenwick had no
problems getting past the Huskies in their one contest during the regular
season; can they grab another win and get back to the state tournament or
does OPRF have something up their sleeve for the Friars?
GBN Sectional
12:00pm Loyola vs New Trier
It might be best to throw everything out that you know
about both Loyola, New Trier, and how they match up against each other
this season. Last year, Loyola was the top-seed entering the final
game and New Trier beat them 11-10 to get to state. So here we are again
in the same situation, with Loyola on a roll after beating Fenwick last
weekend and New Trier outlasting Evanston in overtime on Friday. Want a
prediction? How about a close game. That's all anyone probably knows at
this point.
LWN Sectional
12:00pm H-F vs Bremen
It would be hard to blame Homewood-Flossmoor from
thinking about improving upon their fourth-place finish at the state meet
in 2010. But they would be wise not to overlook a Bremen team that has
been threatening to get to state themselves for the past two years. H-F
won the first contest between the two teams, but that was back in Week 1,
so we'll see of Red Jaguars have any tricks up their sleeve for the
Vikings at noon on Saturday.
Lyons Sectional
12:00pm Lyons vs Mother McAuley
If you had to pick a sectional final game to attend,
the matchup between Lyons and Mother McAuley just might be the game to
see. Expect a closely-contested matchup between the #8 and #10 teams in
the state in Western Springs on Saturday.
Neuqua Valley Sectional
12:00pm Naperville Central vs Naperville North
Naperville North couldn't beat Naperville Central in
two tries during the regular season. So why should they be optimistic
heading into the sectional finals? Mainly because they same could have
been said about Waubonsie Valley heading into the semifinal round, and the
Huskies disposed of the Warriors 7-4 on Friday. On the other hand, the
Redhawks have lost once this year to Fenwick, so they aren't used to
losing. They probably won't overlook their rivals in a game that leads to
the state tournament, so an upset for North in this one could be tough to
achieve.
UIC Sectional
1:30pm St Ignatius vs Lane
To say that Lane is on a roll is probably an
understatement. The Indians have won 27 games in a row and just don't
allow very many goals. They'll have their work cut out for them on
Saturday though, as they face a tough St Ignatius defense that also has
several weapons on the offensive end. The Wolfpack also won the Catholic
League tournament last weekend, so it will take an extraordinary effort
from Lane to upset St Ignatius.
Vernon Hills Sectional
12:00pm Mundelein vs Stevenson
Mundelein has two wins over Stevenson in 2011. That
might mean absolutely nothing when the two teams meet in the final game of
the Vernon Hills Sectional on Saturday afternoon. The last time that
played was back in Week 6 anyways, so either team could emerge as a state
qualifier when all is said and done on Saturday.
