Tournament Report

The regular season came to a
close over the weekend, with several teams participating in conference
tournaments or other events across the state. Here is a closer look at what went
down in the final weekend of the season:
CPS
Tournament
Curie won the CPS Tournament for
the fifth straight year, as they avenged a recent loss to Young by earning
an 8-3 victory over the Dolphins in the title game on Saturday. The
Condors had earlier beaten Von Steuben in the semifinals, while Young
defeated Lane to make it to the final game.
Von Steuben beat Lane 21-9 to
claim a third place finish in the league.
CSL Tournament
New Trier won the 2011 edition of the CSL Tournament, edging Glenbrook
South 11-8 in the title game on Saturday evening. The Trevians had earned
wins over Evanston and Niles West to get to the final game, while GBS won
convincingly over Deer Park and Maine East to get to the final game.
Evanston beat Deer Park 14-9 to finish in the third spot, while GBN topped
Maine South 7-4 to end up in fifth place.
MCAC
Tournament
Things went according to plan in the Catholic League Tourney over the
weekend, as top-ranked Fenwick stayed perfect in 2011 by earning wins over
St Ignatius and Brother Rice on Saturday to win their eighth straight MCAC
title. The Crusaders ended up in second after beating Loyola 13-5 in the
semifinals.
St Ignatius beat the Ramblers 12-7 in the third place game.
MSL Championship
Palatine earned a convincing 12-4 victory over Wheeling in the
Mid-Suburban League title game on Thursday. The Pirates claimed their
second championship in a row after beating BG in the final game in 2010.
Stevenson Tournament
Naperville Central built some momentum for the postseason by earning three
straight wins over the hosts, LWC, and Neuqua on Saturday. The Redhawks'
averaged a 10-goal margin of victory as they head to the NV Sectional as
the top seed.
The Wildcats beat LWC 17-10 and topped Stevenson in the last game of the
weekend to finish in second place. The Knights beat Stevenson 11-9 to
finish in third place, while the Patriots stumbled to an 0-3 mark at their
own event.
Vernon Hills Tournament
Latin beat LWE and held off Libertyville to advance to the Vernon Hills
Tournament final, while LWN earned wins over the hosts and Conant to make
it to the title game. The Romans beat the Phoenix to claim the tournament
title for the second straight year.
Libertyville nicked Conant 10-9 in the third place game, while LWE
defeated Vernon Hills to claim fifth place at the second annual event.
WSC Tournament
Lyons earned a comfortable 16-3 win over Morton in the semis and beat Oak
Park 14-7 to reclaim the WSC title in 2011. The Huskies made it to the
title game after edging Hinsdale Central 11-9 in the semifinal round on
Friday night.
