Week 9
Girls
Tournament Previews
By Aaron Brown
The schedules are set for the
final week of the regular season, with seven tournaments/conference
championships slated for the last four days of action before the postseason
begins. Here is a closer look at what to look for over the weekend:
CPS
Tournament
The CPS Tournament gets underway on Thursday afternoon
with four quarterfinal games. Lane is the top seed and will face Payton at
6:30pm, with the winner to play either Morgan Park or Young in the second
semifinal. On the other side of the bracket, Northside plays Lakeview and
Curie meets Lindblom, with the winning teams playing in the first
semifinal game.
The semifinals start at 9:00am on Saturday and conclude
with the title game at 4:00pm. In last year's event, Lane surprised Young
to win the championship game 9-8, so the top-seeded Indians will be
looking for the same result in 2011.

CSL
Tournament (at Glenbrook South)
The seven-team slate for the CSL Tournament is
finalized, with host GBS taking on Maine East in the first quarterfinal
game at 4:30pm on Friday. That will be followed by first-round games
between GBN-Maine West and Deer Park-Maine South, while New Trier gets an
opening-round bye.
The semifinals begin at 12:00pm on Saturday and
end with a 4:00pm championship game at GBS. New Trier beat Evanston 7-1 in
last year's title game.

MCAC
Tournament (at Fenwick)
The Catholic League title is up for grabs this weekend,
as top-seeded St Ignatius will look to dethrone Fenwick as MCAC title
winners in 2011. The Friars beat the Wolfpack 15-13 in OT in 2010, but
Ignatius comes in more confident after beating the Friars 10-5 earlier
this season.
Fenwick starts the event on Friday with a 4:30pm game
against Resurrection, while the Wolfpack go up against DeLaSalle in the
opening round. Mother McAuley matches up with St Viator in the third game,
with the winner to face the top seed on Saturday in the semifinal round.
Loyola takes on Marian at 8:30pm with the winning team awarded with a
semifinal game with the top seed.
The semifinals get started at 9:00am on Saturday and
conclude with a 3:30pm championship game at Fenwick.

MSL Championship
(at Fremd)
The tournament week kicks off with the Mid-Suburban League championship
game at 6:00pm at Fremd on Wednesday. #11 Fremd (20-4) takes on #13
Prospect
(18-1)
in a game that features teams that went undefeated in their respective MSL
divisions.
The Vikings and Knights last met for the conference title in 2008, with
Fremd walking away with a 12-4 win. The Vikings have since won two more
titles over Wheeling in 2009 and 2010, so they'll be looking to add
another trophy to their display case against a one-loss Prospect team.

championship game format

The Mustangs are joined by Buffalo Grove, Latin, and Prospect for a
six-game event that gets started on Saturday morning. The hosts won the
event last year with the same teams involved.
