Twelve teams were in action between
Friday and Saturday as the regular season is starting to wind down. Here is a
closer look at what happened over the weekend at tournaments that took place at
Lane, R-B, and Rockford:
Lane
Tournament
The Indians made their mark at their own tournament, winning
the event with a 4-0 record and beating previously unbeaten Prospect in the
title game. They also knocked off Latin, Oak Park, and Payton over the weekend.
Latin went 3-1 and won the third place game over New Trier,
while Curie beat Oak Park in the fifth place game on Saturday.
R-B Tournament
#14 Bremen
earned wins over Richards, R-B, and Shepard to claim the Independent
Conference title over the weekend. Nora Plank and Emma Martinus combined
to score 21 goals in the three-game set f, while goalie Vasi Vasilopoulos
recorded her first shutout in a 9-0 win over the hosts.
Richards finished in second place with a 2-1 mark, while R-B fended off
Shepard for third place.
Rockford Tournament
Fenwick went 3-1 at the Rockford Tournament, finishing in a three-way tie
with #1 Okemos and #4 Rockford for the best record at the event. The
Friars beat Michigan's top-ranked team 5-3 in the first championship round
game, but dropped a 7-5 decision to Rockford in their final game. Okemos
had earlier beaten Rockford in the other championship round game.
The Friars also earned wins over East Grand Rapids and #10 Jenison in the
preliminary round over the weekend.
