Lyons Tournament
Lyons held off Stevenson 8-6,
survived a scare from Waubonsie Valley in a 6-4 thriller, and outlasted
Evanston 12-4 to win their own tournament on Saturday in LaGrange.
In the first game, Claire Curran
and Lizzy Kosin each scored 3 goals and the Lions used a 3-1 run in the
second half to pull away from Stevenson to earn an 8-6 win in the
tournament opener. The

Waubonsie Valley proved to be a
difficult challenge for LT, as the Warriors' Alex White scored after an
ejection to tie the game at 4-4 in the fourth quarter. In the final
minute, however, Carly Strass found Carrie Nacht open on a drive to the
right post and Nacht slotted her shot into the right corner to give Lyons
a 5-4 lead with 0:42 remaining. On Waubonsie's next possession, Nacht
forced a turnover on the perimeter that Kosin collected and went the
distance to score and put the game away with 0:20 left to play.
In their last game, Lyons jumped
out to a 6-1 halftime lead en route to a 12-4 victory over Evanston. Nacht
and Kosin each scored 3 goals in the win, while Katie Calvert scored 2
times and Grace Trilla made 9 saves for LT.
Stevenson finished the day with
a 2-1 record after earning wins over Evanston and Waubonsie. Patriots'
goalie Lisa Michalowski held Waubonsie to just one goal in the day's final
game, a 9-1 win for Stevenson. The Patriots also held off Evanston 12-10.
Evanston finished the day with a
1-2 record, earning a 12-5 win over Lockport before falling to Lyons and
Stevenson. In the win, Ellis O'Connor scored 7 times and Sarah Thompson
added 3 scores. For the tournament, O'Connor led the team with 14 scores,
Claire Simon totaled 5 goals, and Thompson added 4 goals and 18 steals.
Waubonsie Valley also finished
with a 1-2 record. Lockport ended the day with an 0-2 mark.
