Tournament Report
By Aaron Brown
The Illinois teams held their own against the visiting Missouri teams this
weekend, while the Northside Tournament title game went down to the wire and
finished in overtime. Read below to find out what happened this weekend:
Northside
Tournament
Juarez survived an
overtime thriller with Von Steuben to earn a 12-11 victory and claim
the Northside Tournament title after a 3-0 weekend
performance. Antonio Reyes sent the final game into extra time with
a late goal in the fourth quarter, then scored the game-winner in
the final minute of overtime to give the Eagles the win.
In addition to the heroic
final game performance of Reyes, Ivan Huerta and Josue Hernandez
combined to score 23 goals in preliminary round wins over Lane and
Morgan Park.
Lane edged Northside 9-8
in the third place game and ended the day with a 2-1 record. Wyatt
Sugrue led the Indians in their last game, while Ricardo Quezada
scored 10 goals during the three-game event.
Foreman held off Morgan
Park 17-11 in the fifth place game, giving them their first win of
the day. John Adams (15 goals at the tournament) and Juan Mendez
each scored 5 times in the victory.
Schaumburg Tournament
The Schaumburg Classic
ended with Illinois teams posting an 11-14 record against five
visiting teams from Missouri. Conant, Mundelein, and the hosts
finished the weekend with 3-2 marks, while Hoffman and York both
went 1-4.
The competition was
competitive throughout the weekend; for example, Schaumburg lost by
two against St Louis and lost a shootout against Parkway West. Also,
Hoffman ended the event with just one win, but lost two shootouts to
Lindbergh and Parkway North.
St Louis and Parkway West both ended the weekend
with 5-0 records. St Louis had a margin of victory of eight goals,
with their closest contest being a 12-10 win over Schaumburg in
their final game on Saturday. Parkway West survived a shootout with
the hosts and earned a one-goal win over Mundelein in a late game on
Saturday.
Lindbergh and Parkway North both went 2-3 at the
event, while Lafayette heads back to Missouri without a win (0-5).
Stevenson
Tournament
Oak Park enjoyed the most success of the IL vs MO battle over the weekend,
as the Huskies went 3-0 with wins over DeSmet, Ladue, and MICDS.
Libertyville and Stevenson did not fare as well, as both teams went 1-2
during the three-game set. Both teams won against Ladue on Saturday for
their only respective wins.
