Week 3
Boys
Tournament Previews
By Aaron Brown
A handful of Missouri teams are in town and help fill out the fields in two of
the three tournaments this weekend.
Here is a preview of what to
watch for beginning at 10:00am on Friday morning at the Schaumburg Tournament:
Northside
Tournament
The
Northside Tournament
features a field filled with Chicago Public Schools looking to get
their seasons headed in the right direction after three weeks of
play.
The hosts are joined by Juarez, Lane, Mather,
Morgan Park, and Von Steuben .
Von Steuben beat Morgan
Park 14-5 in last year's title game to finish with a 3-0 record at
the tournament. Juarez defeated the hosts 14-9 in the third place
game, and Lane edged Mather by a 16-13 score in the fifth place
game.
Format: 6 teams, 9 games,
championship-round format
Schaumburg Tournament
The Schaumburg Tournament
takes on a slightly different format this year, as five Illinois
teams will match up with five Missouri teams in a crossver format.
On Saturday, both Conant and Schaumburg's pools will be used in
order to fit 25 total games in on Friday and Saturday.
The Illinois teams include Conant, Hoffman,
Mundelein, York, and the host Saxons.
The Missouri teams include Lafayette, Lindbergh,
Parkway North, Parkway West, and St Louis.
As for what to expect from the Missouri teams, St
Louis has gotten off to a fast start with four straight wins to
start their season. The rest of the teams are in the early stages of
their competitive season, making the Schaumburg Tournament an early
indicator of their future success.
In last year's edition, Mundelein beat St Louis
7-6 in the title game. Lindbergh also impressed at the event,
finishing in third place with a 9-8 overtime win over Schaumburg.
Format: 10 teams, 25 games,
crossover format
Stevenson
Tournament
The Patriots welcome DeSmet, Ladue, and MICDS in from Missouri for a six-team tournament in
Lincolnshire on Saturday morning. Also joining them are Libertyville and Oak
Park.
Libertyville has gotten off to the fastest start of the Illinois teams, as they
put their undefeated record (5-0) to the test, while Stevenson (2-6) and
Oak Park (2-3-1) are looking to bounce back after last week's Fenwick
Tournament, in which both teams combined to win one game out of eight. That
win came when Oak Park beat Stevenson 18-7 last Thursday.
DeSmet (2-1) earned victories in their first two games in overtime over Parkway South
and Ladue before falling to St Louis 16-4. Ladue (0-2) has lost their first two
games, an overtime loss to DeSmet and a 12-4 road loss to St Louis. MICDS will
get their season underway in Illinois this weekend.
Format: 6 teams, 9 games, crossover
format
