Week 1
Tournament Report

While looking over the game recaps from
this weekend, I realized that there is a TON of information covered, which
is expected when there are 10 tournaments and over 100 games being played
in the first weekend of the season. As a result, I've condensed the
information to give you a better sense of what happened on between Friday
and Saturday:
BOYS
Hoffman Tournament
Buffalo Grove bounced back from their loss to
Schaumburg on Friday afternoon to top the Saxons in the title game of the
Hoffman Tournament and claim the title. The Bison did have the lead in the
first contest before Mike Gergen and Randy Carr combined to give the
Saxons a 15-12 victory. The Saxons were without Gergen in the final game,
which Buffalo Grove won 12-10. Both teams finished 4-1 at the tournament.
St Charles East finished in third place with a 3-1
record, falling to BG in the semifinals 11-7. Hoffman walked away with a
2-2 record and a fourth place finish, as they fell to Schaumburg 11-9 in
the other semifinal game.
Naperville Tournament
Naperville Central went 4-0 over the weekend to
continue their dominance over the area teams. Naperville North went 2-1-1,
beating Metea and Neuqua and earning a 10-10 draw with Waubonsie. Neuqua beat Waubonsie 11-9 to finish with a 2-2 mark, while Waubonsie
(1-2-1)
earned their lone win over Metea.
Palatine Tournament
The stacked
Palatine Tournament has
been covered in detail (follow the link). The long and short of it is that
St Ignatius went 4-0, earning wins Curie, H-F, McHenry, and Mundelein.
Curie and H-F finished in a 11-11 tie for second place.
Palatine surprised McHenry, Mundelein, and Latin to grab fourth place,
while Latin beat McHenry and New Trier to place fifth.
Stagg Tournament
Stagg went 4-0 at their tournament, ending the day with
a 13-10 win over Young in the championship game. Young finished 3-1 to
grab second place, while St Charles North beat Hinsdale Central 14-10 in
the third place game and St Rita beat Bradley 9-8 for fifth place.
Highland Park/Deerfield Tournament
Highland Park/Deerfield won their own tournament over
the weekend, finishing with a 3-0 record after wins over GBN, Barrington,
and Elk Grove. GBN took second place, while Barringon beat Meadows in the
third place game and Niles West beat Elk Grove to take fifth place.
GIRLS
Conant Tournament
Lane outlasted Conant in a shootout 6-4 after the teams
finished regulation tied at 4-4. The Indians also beat Lake Forest and St
Charles East.
Conant finished second with a 2-1 record on Saturday
for second place, while Lake Forest topped STC East in the third place
game.
Loyola Tournament
Fremd came from behind (trailed 7-3 at halftime) to
beat Loyola in a shootout by a score of 9-8. The Vikings also knocked off
Hersey and R-B to win the title.
Loyola finished second with wins over Hersey and R-B,
while Hersey beat R-B 8-2 for third place.
Naperville Tournament
The day belonged to Naperville Central on Saturday, as
the Redhawks went 4-0 to win the tournament in convincing fashion.
Waubonsie and Naperville North finished their game tied at 5-5, with the
Warriors finishing the day with a 2-1-1 record in second place and the
Huskies ending with a 1-2-1 mark in fourth. Neuqua beat Naperville North
8-4 and finished in third place with a 2-2 record.
Sandburg Tournament
Jamie Pappanastos scored in the closing seconds of
regulation to give Sandburg an 11-10 win over New Trier. The Eagles also
beat Evanston and Wheeling to finish the weekend with a 3-0 record en
route to the tournament title.
New Trier edged Evanston 8-4 and also earned wins over
St Viator and Wheeling and ended the day with a 3-1 record. Evanston
defeated GBS and St Viator to finish 2-2. St Viator also went 2-2 with
wins over GBS and Wheeling.
Northside Tournament
The Northside Tournament was filled with a lot of close
contests, with Oak Park beating Marian 9-8 in the virtual title game. The
Huskies also beat the hosts and York but fell to Hinsdale South 7-4
earlier in the day.
Marian finished second after beating Hinsdale South,
NSP, and York. Northside went 2-2 with wins over Hinsdale South and York,
while Hinsdale South also finished the day with a 2-2 record.
