Palatine
Tournament Report
By Aaron Brown
The Palatine Tournament
highlighted a weekend filled with exciting games and tournaments. It
featured nine teams ranked in the Top 25 coming into the first week of the
season, so it should give an early indication on how things might shake
out during the 2011 season.
Friday Report
St Ignatius beat both McHenry and Mundelein in
convincing fashion on Friday night, moving them into the first place
bracket of the tournament. They will meet the winner of Curie-Palatine
(8:00am) in one game and also await the outcome of the game between H-F
and New Trier (9:50am) in their other game. The Vikings need a win to
advance to the first place bracket after beating Latin on Friday night.
The only other team cemented into a bracket is Loyola, who will play in
the third place bracket after losses to Curie and Palatine.
Saturday Report
St Ignatius continued their top early season form with
wins over Curie and H-F on Saturday. Their 4-0 record allowed them to
claim the Palatine Tournament title. Curie and H-F finished in an 11-11
tie in the second place game, with the Condors winning the tiebreaker.
Palatine knocked off Latin and McHenry in the championship round to finish
the weekend in fourth with a 3-1 record. Latin beat McHenry for fifth,
Mundelein defeated New Trier and Loyola for seventh place, and New Trier
beat their rivals Loyola 12-8 in the eighth place game at the end of the
tournament.
