GIRLS' Sectional Quarterfinal Ballers

 

The following list of 'Ballers' is comprised of players whose performances stood out in Wednesday's quarterfinal games. The list is broken down into three groups (see below for complete descriptions):

 


 

STAYIN' ALIVE

The following players helped lift a team seeded third or lower advance to play another game in the state playoffs:

 

Allie Fisher (Andrew)

Fisher scored 4 goals to help Andrew pull away from Marian in a narrow 11-8 victory.

 

Anna Lebiedzinski (Vernon Hills)

Lebiedzinski recorded 6 goals to lead the Cougars to a 10-8 win over Libertyville at their own sectional.

 

Ashley Henderson (Latin)

Henderson scored 4 of her team's 8 goals as the Romans defeated Young 8-2 at the UIC Sectional.

 

Chloe Padula/Lisa Danhauer (Barrington)

Padula scored the game-winning goal in overtime to help send sixth-seeded Barrington past third-seed St Viator 7-6, while Danhauer led the Fillies with 3 scores in the win.

 

Christine Rovani (Hersey)

Rovani scored 7 times in Hersey's 13-10 victory over Conant at the Barrington Sectional.

 

Colleen Koepte (Resurrection)

Koepte scored 4 times to help lead the Bandits to a 15-0 shutout win over Maria.

 

Erika Nothnagel (New Trier)

Nothnagel totaled 5 scores as New Trier outlasted GBS by a 14-5 margin at the GBN Sectional.

 

Leah Malsom (Wheeling)

Malson tallied 5 goals to help push Wheeling into the next round after they beat Lake Forest 7-4.

 

Lisa Gorski (Richards)

Gorksi notched 9 scores for the Bulldogs as they upended Stagg 22-9 on Wednesday.

 

Mary Reilly (LWE)

Reilly registered 7 scores as Lincoln-Way East knocked off rivals Lincoln-Way Central 15-7.

 

Meg Dix (Prospect)

Dix recorded 5 goals to help push Prospect past GBN 17-7 at the GBN Sectional.

 

Megan Russell/Rachel Lehman (Neuqua Valley)

Russell and Lehman combined to score 6 goals as Neuqua pulled away from Metea Valley to earn a 9-3 victory.

 


 

TAKIN' CARE OF BUSINESS

The following players helped one of the top two seeds get the job done and move on to the semifinal round:

 

Alex White/Lauren Stercay/EB Keeve (Waubonsie)

White and Stercay combined to score 8 goals in WV's 9-5 win over Hinsdale South, while Keeve stopped 19 shots and dished out 4 assists.

 

Alexis Jones/Emily Tylka (Mundelein)

Jones scored 6 goals and Tylka made 10 saves to help lead Mundelein to a 9-4 victory over Buffalo Grove.

 

Ellis O'Connor (Evanston)

O'Connor poured in 9 goals as Evanston had no problems getting past Maine South 15-3.

 

Emily McCarthy (Fremd)

McCarthy scored 4 times to lead Fremd's balanced offense past Meadows 19-5.

 

Emma Martinus/Hannah Schultz (Bremen)

Martinus and Schultz combined to score 10 times as the Red Jaguars beat LWN 12-10.

 

Emily Sejna/Julia Campbell (NC)

Sejna scored 4 times and Campbell made 13 saves as NC had no problem beating Lockport 18-1.

 

Jamie Pappanastos (Sandburg)

Pappanastos notched a whopping 10 scores as the Eagles defeated Morgan Park 20-3.

 

Karen Lowry (Stevenson)

The Stevenson senior recorded 5 goals to lead the Patriots to an 18-1 triumph over Deer Park.

 

Kimmy Stefanik (Oak Park)

Stefanik tallied 5 goals as Oak Park blasted Lindblom 17-1 at the Fenwick Sectional.

 

Rebecca Mathews (H-F)

Mathews scored 8 goals to lead the Vikings to an 18-4 win over LWW at the LWN Sectional.

 


 

VALIANT LAST STANDS

The following players did their best to help their team try to pull off an upset in the quarterfinal round:

 

Carlee Weiser/Devin Green (Marian)

Weiser scored 4 goals and Green made 14 saves to help Marian nearly overtake Andrew before slipping to an 11-8 defeat.

 

Danijela Jackovich (LWC)

Jackovich scored 6 goals but the Knights were overpowered by LWE and were knocked out of the playoffs with a 15-7 defeat.

 

Emily Nowlin (Lake Forest)

Nowlin scored 3 times to lead the Scouts, who came up short against Wheeling on Wednesday (7-4 loss).

 

Eleni Murphy (Hinsdale South)

Murphy totaled 4 goals as Hinsdale South was able to hang with Waubonsie Valley before dropping a 9-5 decision.

 

Sarah Pircon (Hinsdale Central)

Pircon scored all 4 of her team's goals as the Red Devils nearly upset Naperville North (5-4 loss).
