Boys Consolation Game: St Ignatius 16 Mundelein 15 (2 OT)
LINCOLNSHIRE, IL - Mark Alvarado scored in the first minute of sudden death overtime to lift St Ignatius to a 16-15 victory over Mundelein the boys' consolation game on Saturday night.
The Wolfpack built an early lead just as they did in their semifinal loss to Fenwick, but the Mustangs went on a 7-2 run in the second quarter to lead 8-6 at halftime. The teams went back and forth in the second half, with Ignatius taking a late 12-1 lead after a goal by Giuliano Wrobel. But Will Davidson scored on a penalty shot and Pat Falconer sent the game to overtime with a goal from the left post with three seconds remaining in regulation.
The teams traded leads in the first overtime period, but Falconer scored from two meters out to give Mundelein a 15-14 lead. One minute later, Jamie Juarez found Kevin Barth open after a drive towards the goal and he evened the game with less than one minute to play. Neither team could score after timeouts, so sudden death overtime was needed.
In the extra period, Juarez made a steal and found Alvarado open on the other end of the pool and he connected on the game-winning goal to give the Wolfpack the win. Along with Alvarado's six goals, Brendan Moore scored 5 times, Barth and Wrobel both scores 2 goals, and Jack Turek scored once in the victory.
Davidson and Falconer both scored 6 goals for the Mustangs, while Frank Lukacs, Nick Mandas, and Sean Falconer also scored one goal apiece in the losing effort.
