Preview Play-by-play Recap Recap
Quarterfinal #4: Naperville Central 7 Mundelein 4
LINCOLNSHIRE, IL - Naperville Central went on a 4-0 run after giving up the first goal of the game to Mundelein's Evelyn Kurzac, and it was a game-defining run that kept them ahead of the Mustangs the rest of the way as they advance to the state semifinals with a 7-4 victory.
Claire Fleming scored first for the Redhawks, Abbey Kerth recorded two straight scores for NC in the first quarter, and Emily Sejna added a score in the second period to give head coach Jeff Plackett's side a 4-1 advantage. Alexis Jones cut the lead in half with an outside shot that banked off the goalpost and went in, but the Redhawks held Mundelein scoreless for the next ten minutes to take control of the game.
Kurzac broke the scoring drought with a goal early in the final period to make the score 5-3, but Sejna and Kerth responded with consecutive goals to put the game out of reach. Jones scored her second goal of the contest in the final two minutes of regulation, but they could not get another solid scoring chance before NC ran out the clock.
The Redhawks advance to face an undefeated Lyons side seeking a perfect season in 2010.
