The
following is a summary of what took place during the first week of the
season. This is not a complete list and we can only include a few people
in this summary, but the purpose is to recognize a few of the best
performances from each week.
Players To Watch
Boys
- Eduardo Chavez (Curie)
Scored 4 goals to lead Curie past
Sandburg 10-8 on Thursday.
Boys
- Dan Vockerath/Pat LeBuhn (Meadows)
Vockerath scored 25 goals and
LeBuhn added 18 scores in the first week for Meadows; the Mustangs opened
the season with a 5-1 record.
Girls - Shay Bell (Young)
The Dolphins' goalie made 8 saves in a shutout
win over Lincoln Park.
Girls - Natalia
Bialecki (Maine East)
Scored 12 goals in Maine East's 13-8 win over Maine
South.
Biggest Impact
Boys
- Ben Reasons (Naperville Central)
The
Redhawks' shooter scored 7 times in a 14-8 win over Neuqua.
Boys
- Bill Farmer (New Trier)
Helped lead the Trevians to a 4-0
record in the first week, including the Stagg Tournament title on Saturday
afternoon.
Girls - Claire Fleming (Naperville Central)
Tallied 15 goals in three wins at the Naperville
Quad over the weekend and helped the Redhawks to a 5-0 record in the opening
week.
Girls - Alyssa Turza (Sandburg)
Scored 9 goals at the New Trier Tournament, including 5
scores against the hosts in Sandburg's 14-12 victory. The Eagles went 3-0 at
the tournament.
Top Goalie Performances
Boys
- Ryan Morrissey (Meadows)
Stopped 22
shots in the Mustangs' 13-5 victory over Prospect.
Boys
- Neal Salemi (Schaumburg)
Totaled 11
saves and 4 assists in the Saxons' win over Conant, and also helped
Schaumburg finish the first week with a 7-0 record.
Girls - Emily Bornhoff (Lyons)
Allowed a total of only 6 goals and made 31 saves in wins
over Oak Park, Hinsdale South, and York in the opening week.
Girls - Kathleen Servatius (Loyola)
Recorded 29 saves to help Loyola win their tournament on
Saturday, earning wins over Fremd, Hersey, and Riverside-Brookfield.
Biggest Surprises
Boys
- Curie
The Condors
shocked Sandburg 10-8 on Thursday night.
Boys
- Hinsdale South
The Hornets
defeated Homewood-Flossmoor 10-8 and finished second at the Hoffman
Estates Tournament.
Girls - Bremen
The Braves beat Lincoln-Way Central on Monday night and
finished the week with a 2-0 record.
