Week 1 Summary

The following is a summary of what took place during the
first week of the season. This is not a complete list and we can only
include a few people in this summary, but the purpose is to recognize a
few of the best performances from each week.
Players To Watch
Boys - Mike McArdle (St Rita)
Recorded 18 goals in 4 games, including 7
scores in the title game win over Stagg, to help the Mustangs win the
Commander Cup.
Boys - Greg Nelson (Homewood-Flossmoor)
The Vikings' senior scored 9 goals in a win
over Hinsdale South and led H-F with 4 goals in a 13-11 victory over St
Rita.
Girls - Ryanne O'Donnell (New Trier)
The lefty totaled 10 goals in wins over
Hinsdale Central and Northside for the Trevians.
Girls - Mari Paraskevopoulos (Hersey)
Scored 24 goals in wins over Barrington, GBN,
and St Viator and added 10 goals at the Loyola Tournament over the weekend
to total 34 goals in the first week of the season.
Biggest Impact
Boys - Sam Rosen (Evanston)
The first-year starter scored 6 goals to lead
the Wildkits' to a 16-7 win over New Trier and added 3 scores in a 4-2 win
over Palatine on Friday.
Girls - Gabi Cabrera (Young)
The freshman scored 18 goals in wins over
Northside and Lane and helped Whitney Young move up to #27 in the
rankings.
Girls - Alyssa Turza (Sandburg)
The first-year starter scored 14 goals in 3
games at the New Trier Tournament to lead the Eagles to wins over
Evanston, New Trier, and St Viator.
Top Defensive Performances
Boys - Jon Kuhrt (Naperville North)
Key steal led to the game-winning goal in an
11-9 win over Sandburg.
Boys - David Peck (McHenry)
Made 5 steals and added 4 assists in the
Warriors' win over Stevenson.
Girls - Megan Jacobs (Lyons)
Did not allow a goal from her hole defense
position in a 15-4 win over Oak Park on Tuesday.
Girls - Lily Nassiri/McKenna Kulman (Evanston)
The two combined to make 13 steals as the
Wildkits' defense allowed just two goals in a 6-2 victory over Latin.
Top Goalie Performances
Boys - Tyler Kelley (Naperville Central)
Recorded 14 saves and 5 steals and limited
Neuqua Valley to just 2 goals as Naperville Central won Friday's
tournament game 11-2.
Boys - Matt Szarzynski (Andrew)
Recorded a shutout and did not allow a goal in
five man-down situations to help Andrew beat Bradley 11-0.
Girls - Emily Bornhoff (Lyons)
Made 24 saves in a 15-4 win over Oak Park and
totaled 50 saves in 3 wins over Oak Park, York, and Hinsdale South.
Girls - Stephanie Pouder (Sandburg)
Saved 30 total shots in three games to help
lead the Eagles to a 3-0 record at the New Trier Tournament.
Biggest Surprises
Boys - McHenry
The Warriors upset #2 Stevenson 15-14 on Tuesday.
Boys - Young
Luis Solis and Raul Ariza led the Dolphins to
an upset win over Ignatius.
Boys - Hoffman Estates
Knocked off Schaumburg 9-7 in the Hoffman
Tournament semifinals.
Girls - Northside Prep
Beat both York and Hinsdale South to win their
own tournament.

Only Conant and Fremd escaped Week 1 without a
loss.
Boys - Conant
Off to 6-0 start after winning the Hoffman
Tournament.
Girls - Maine East
2-0 start is best in school history
