Fenwick wasted no time in beginning their quest to
defend their title at the state tournament on Thursday night, as they reeled off
11 first quarter goals and led 13-0 at one point before cruising to a 22-7 win
over Schaumburg in the final quarterfinal game of the day. Chris Wendt and
Andrew McKernin each scored 4 goals in the win for the Friars, while Brian
Barron tallied 3 scores and Terry Sweeney and John Pavlik both scored 2 times

Fenwick, followed by two goals by Wendt on breakaway chances to give the Friars
a 5-0 advantage. After Wendt assisted McKernin on a goal after a drive to make
the score 6-0, Barron dropped a pass in front of the net as Schaumburg
goaltender Neal Salemi came out of the crease and McKernin pushed the ball in to
give Fenwick a 7-0 lead. The Friars would score four more times in the final
minute of the period to lead 11-0 after the opening quarter.
Will Rigali and Will Schulenberg each tacked on
goals in the second quarter for the Friars, but Schaumburg's Chris Corbett put
the Saxons on the board with a goal from 2-meters out to make the score 13-1.

through the final quarter, then Schaumburg's Drew Cinelli rattled off two
