Adnan
Ovcina
(Von Steuben)
Von Steuben's Adnan Ovcina recorded his 500th
career goal last weekend at the Sandburg Tournament. He increased his
overall total for the season to 156 goals, averaging 5.5 goals per game at
the tournament and 7.42 goals per game for the year thus far.
The Panthers are 17-7 on the season and are
gearing up for the Chicago Public League Championships this weekend.
Chris Jones
(Fenwick)
The Fenwick goalie helped lead his team to
another undefeated week of water polo, as the Friars went 5-0 in Week 7 and
won the Stevenson Tournament.
Jones starting the week by limiting #3 Latin to
only 3 total goals in a 12-3 victory. On Friday night, the Friars defeated
Mundelein 10-4 with Jones in net, then he held Lake Forest scoreless in
three periods of action as Fenwick eventually won the first round game 13-3.
On Saturday, the Friars also beat # St Patrick 9-6 and #5 Naperville Central
13-8.
GIRLS
Siobhan Larsen
(Mundelein)
Siobhan started the week off strong with a
6-goal performance against Fremd, outscoring the Vikings in the process in a
10-5 win. On Tuesday, she added 5 goals as #11 Mundelein knocked off #8
Loyola 10-8. Then, against Lake Forest on Thursday, Larsen tallied 3 goals
as the Mustangs finished the week 3-0 with a 9-6 win over the Scouts.
Sara Belczak/Brittany Rowley (Hinsdale
South)
At the Lockport Tournament over the weekend,
Belczak and Rowley teamed up on the defensive end in wins over Lincoln-Way
Central, Lockport, and rival Hinsdale Central.
Rowley registered a total of 44 saves over the
weekend, holding LWC to 5 goals in an 8-5 win, limiting Hinsdale Central to
3 goals in a 7-3 win, and keeping the Hornets close with #12 St Viator in a
6-5 loss.
Belczak also played a large part in Hinsdale
South's success on the defensive end, supplying terrific hole defense
against each of their opponents top players.
Valerie Poulos (Oak Park)
Valerie lead the Huskies to a tournament title
at St Charles North, totaling 12 goals and 9 steals in Oak Park's 3-0
weekend.
In the first game of the tournament, she totaled
6 goals and 2 steals as OPRF shutout Northside Prep 13-0. The Huskies
advanced to the championship game after a 5-5 tie with Lincoln-Way East, as
Poulos scored 3 goals and added 2 steals. In the title game, she tallied 3
goals and chipped in 5 steals on the defensive end as Oak Park defeated St
Charles North 10-2 to win the tournament.
